THE 'LINE OF KINGS' COLLECTION - ROYAL ARMOURIES COLLABORATION

'Line of Kings' collection은 젊은 헨리8세가 살던 Eltham Palace의 이름을 차용한 Wilde & Harte 'Eltham' design razors를 기반으로 만든 면도기입니다. 헨리 8세의 갑옷은 'Line of Kings' 전시관에 전시되어 있습니다. 헨리 8세 집권부터 저명한 외국 귀빈들은 Tower of London에 초대되어 그 갑옷들을 보았습니다. 17세기 후반에 처음 만들어진 ‘Line of Kings’ 전시관은 350년이 넘는 오래된 역사를 가지고 있습니다. 헨리 8세는 독일과 이탈리아로부터 가장 뛰어난 기술을 가진 갑옷 장인들을 데러와 왕을 위한 작업을 하도록 하였씁니다. 헨리 8세의 야망은 갑옷 제작기술의 새로운 기준을 만들고 16세기 유럽에서 가장 정교한 갑옷을 만드는 것이였습니다. 갑옷 전체가 Tudor roses와 같은 문양으로 선명하게 식각되어졌습니다. 1520년까지 그리니치 갑옷 장인들은 헨리 8세의 Foot Combat armour에 마지막 마감을 했습니다. 그렇게 제조된 갑옷은 그 당시 유럽에서 최신의 기술이 적용된 탁월한 것이였습니다. 그렇게 영국 스타일의 갑옷의 전성시대가 시작되었습니다. 하지만 오늘날 우리가 알고 있는 'Line of Kings' 전시관은 17세기 후반 군주제의 회복에 따라 처음으로 세워지게 되었습니다. 지금은 헨리 8세의 Foot Combat armour는 매우 탁월하여 400여년이 지난 지금 NASA 우주복 디자인에 영감을 제공하였습니다.

THE 'LINE OF KINGS' COLLECTION - ROYAL ARMOURIES COLLABORATION

The 'Line of Kings' collection features Wilde & Harte 'Eltham' design razors, named after Eltham Palace, the former Royal Residence to a young Henry VIII. Examples of Henry’s armour are represented in the 'Line of Kings' exhibition. From the reign of Henry VIII onwards, distinguished foreign dignitaries were invited to visit the Tower of London to inspect the royal armoury.  First created in the second half of the 17th century – the ‘Line of Kings’ exhibition has a history spanning over 350 years. King Henry VIII recruited the most skilful armourers from Germany and Italy for his royal workshops. Henry’s ambition was to set a new standard for armour craftmanship and to create the finest European armour of the 16th century. The entire armour is etched with designs, including Tudor roses. During Henry VIII’s reign, distinguished foreign dignitaries were invited to visit the Tower of London to inspect the royal armoury. By 1520, the Greenwich armourers were putting the finishing touches to Henry VIII’s Foot Combat armour. It was a triumph. The armour was an outstanding example of cutting edge technology that matched, if not bettered, anything in Europe. The great era of English-styled armours had begun. However, it was following the restoration of the monarchy in the second half of the 17th century that the ‘Line of Kings’ exhibition as we know it today was first established. Now, Henry VIII’s Foot Combat armour was so extraordinary in fact, that over 400 years later it provided inspiration for NASA spacesuit designs.
