SEA DOG SHAVING BOWL

19세기 면도보울들에 그려졌던 많은 문양(motifs)중에서 사각의 여러 돗대를 단 범선(a fully rigged ship)만큼 선원들에 적합한 것은 없었다. 그 범선은 당시 선원들도 잘 알고 있던 항해생활의 상징이였다. 이러한 면도보울들은 선원들의 기념품만이 아니라 그들의 정체성의 표시로 그들을 바다와 연결했던 고리였다. "Sea Dog" 아트웍은 당시 거친 바다에 도전하고 데크에서 일하며 파도의 리듬으로 살았던 선원들에대한 경의를 표하는 것이다. 상선에서 군함까지 숙련된 선원들은 바람이 데려다주는 어느 곳이든 그들의 물품과 전통을 실어날랐다. Laurent이 재형상화한 타임리스한 이미지는 선원들의 끈질김과 지난 시대의 예술 모두를 잡아낸 것이다.

약 100년 전 개발되고 지금도 여전히 선명성(clarity)과 내구성(durability)으로 선호되는 전통적인 스크린 프린트 방법을 이용한 아트웍(artwork)이 적용되어 전통적인 쉐이빙 보울에 가장 적합하고 어울린다. 각 색상은 전이되는 매체위의 세라믹 색소가 프린트된 후 수작업으로 조심스럽게 보울에 부착된 후 고열의 가마에서 구워진다. 그 결과 선명한 디테일과 깊이있는 색상 그리고 오래 지속되는 아름다움이 융합된 디자인으로 태어난다. 최상의 결과와 오랜 기간 즐기기위해서 사용법과 보관방법을 참조하세요.

Among the many motifs painted on 19th-century shaving mugs, none were more fitting for sailors than a fully rigged ship, an emblem of the seafaring life they knew so well. These mugs weren’t just personal keepsakes; they were a mark of identity, a connection to the trade that kept them on the water. Sea Dog pays tribute to those rugged mariners, the men who braved rough seas, worked the decks, and lived by the rhythm of the tide. From merchant ships to naval vessels, these seasoned sailors carried their trade and traditions wherever the wind took them. Laurent’s reimagining of this timeless motif captures both the enduring spirit of these men and the artistry of a bygone era.

The artwork is applied using traditional screen-printed ceramic transfers, a method developed nearly a century ago and still favored for its clarity and durability, well suited to a shaving bowl grounded in tradition. Each color is printed with ceramic pigment onto a transfer medium, then carefully applied by hand and kiln-fired. The result is a fused design with crisp detail, rich color, and lasting beauty.
