A nod to the bustling charm of a 19th-century barbershop, “Two Barbers” captures a timeless scene that could easily have adorned the porcelain shaving mugs of the era. Collectors of antique shaving mugs will recognize echoes of classic barbershop imagery, where skilled barbers and their tools were celebrated as icons of community and service. Laurent’s interpretation breathes fresh life into this nostalgic vignette to create a piece that feels both historic and contemporary. The artwork is applied using traditional screen-printed ceramic transfers, a method developed nearly a century ago and still favored for its clarity and durability, well suited to a shaving bowl grounded in tradition. Each color is printed with ceramic pigment onto a transfer medium, then carefully applied by hand and kiln-fired. The result is a fused design with crisp detail, rich color, and lasting beauty.
